Photos: 2 Delicious Seafood Recipes That Use Homemade Shrimp Stock
Below is my seafood recipe for A Quick and Easy Shrimp Stock from About.Com Fish and Seafood Cooking, where each week I share my newest seafood recipes and tips.
If you’re a shrimp lover feeling a bit pinched by the price of your favorite seafood, this week’s recipe for A Quick and Easy Shrimp Stock will help you make the most of the shrimp you buy.
In most cases, shrimp with the shell still on is less expensive than when it comes packaged with the shrimp shells already removed. This is great news, because to make a richly flavored shrimp stock, you’ll need shrimp shells. (In this case, the more shells, the merrier you and your belly will be!)
As a reward for all your not-so-hard work peeling shells (please see our short How to Remove Shrimp Shells Video on YouTube), you’ll get to enjoy the taste of homemade shrimp stock which is truly wonderful on its own. Shrimp stock can also be used to create satisfying soups and stews or be can added when making almost any recipe that calls for shrimp or seafood stock.
Among the many delicious things you can make with this homemade shrimp soup stock are this Italian Pasta Soup With White Beans and Scallops and Biscuits With Shrimp and Sausage Gravy which are pictured above.
Want to make a large shrimp stock but don’t have enough shells on hand? Pack up your leftover shrimp shells in a thick freezer bag or reuseable container and freeze them in batches until you have as many as you need. (They keep for months if stored tightly.)
