One of the most delicious and beautiful ways to serve soup, stew, and chili is to ladle it into a rustic, edible bread bowl. (For practical purposes, thick soups work better than thin broths.)
You can also fill bread bowls with your favorite dip or salad.
Although most people have probably eaten their first bread bowl at a restaurant, making your own bread bowls for friends and family can be surprisingly easy and only takes a few minutes if you already have a delicious grainy loaf or two on hand.
You can either choose to carve easy bread bowls from your own homemade loaves of bread, or you can get a nice crusty round loaf of a good peasant style bread from your favorite bakery, farmer’s market, or supermarket and carve them out yourself.
Below is a short video which will show you how to quickly transform a delicious loaf of bread and make it into an edible bread bowl that’s a fun for everything from parties and cookouts to brunch and family dinners.
Wondering what to do with all the leftover scooped out bread? The leftover bread is great to add to homemade meatballs, meatloaf, and burgers, or you can brown it in the oven to make easy croutons. Even better, you can use it to make this wonderful Italian Tuscan Bread and Tomato Salad which is also known as panzanella.
For information about how to bake your own bread bowls from scratch, please see the bread bowl baking recipe link just below the video.
Enjoy!
