Charleston, SC: Falling Snow on 2/12/10. (This is the first significant accumulation of snow in Charleston, SC since 2000.)
If you love the flavor of salmon pinwheels, you won’t be able to stop nibbling these treats that work equally well for brunch, lunch, picnics, or as a main meal appetizer. Fans of Japanese cuisine will enjoy the wasabi (Japanese horseradish) that adds the kick to this addictive dish, but if you prefer your food to be on the less spicy side, you can safely use less wasabi than the recipe calls for (or omit it altogether) as it will still be delicious. Toasted sesame seeds have a wonderfully nutty taste, but toasted flax seeds would also work well.
Here’s a versatile and fun recipe for Smoked Salmon and Wasabi Rolls from the folks at Nami-Nami.
Ingredients:
200 g thinly sliced cold-smoked salmon
50 g dill, finely chopped
150 g cream cheese
1/2 to 1 tsp wasabi paste (the more you use, the spicier it will be)
pinch of salt
2 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
